Party of Regions vows to defend election

The Party of Regions intends to hold several street rallies in support of the presidential election results in Ukraine.

"The Party of Regions intends to hold several public actions regardless of the election results," Party of Regions Deputy chairman Borys Kolesnikov told a news conference on Sunday.

One of the actions will be to guard the Central Election Commission (CEC) against possible abuses, he said. Asked what the party is going to protect the CEC from, Kolesnikov said: "We are going to protect [the CEC] from the authorities, and hope that this will not be necessary."
